Another heavy blow…

January 21, 2010

Just when I think it can’t get any worse, the Supreme Court goes crazy too. Today, in a 5-4 vote, they ruled that they cannot control the amount of money corporations can spend on any candidates campaign.

The Republican argument in that case made me want to cry. They said it was the most basic right guarded by the Constitution — the first amendment — and that prohibiting free speech like that is simply “unamerican.”

NO! What about the OTHER side, people??? What about CORRUPTION?? What will happen when candidates whose entires campaigns have been paid for by big tobacco companies and huge oil companies try to pass reform legislation? Do you think any progressive legislation is going to be able to come out of an administration like that?? NO!

Did the Supreme Court not think of this? This scares me. This is a sign. I’m worried. I still have faith, but its NOT looking good…

This Supreme Court decision is very dangerous, indeed. The right wing bloc on the court (let’s stop calling them conservatives, ‘cuz there’s nothing conservative about their approach to corporate power) is handing our elections to the highest bidder. Scalia, Thomas, Alito, and Roberts are fascists. I don’t what the hell’s wrong with Kennedy. Surely, he’s smarter than this.
