Geocaching — It’s kind of my new thing …

June 22, 2010

Log in. Seize the coordinates. Head out into the unknown, ready and willing to face the obstacles between me and my cache.

Clues? I read the clues. They rhymed, but told me nothing … NOTHING! Here I come to this bench — this innocent-looking, lonely bench.

I’m on my hands and knees — braving the spider webs and ant hills surrounding the wooden seat for two. Is it under the arm rest? No. Is it wedged between who pieces of wood? No. My hands and knees are stained with mud; my brow with sweat; my mind with confusion.

But wait — could it be? I see a rock next to the bench — could my prized cache be hiding there? I can hear it calling my name, yelling — screaming — to be found. I overturn the rock. There is my beauty.

A metal case covered in black tape. Nestled within is a piece of paper with a blank spot, just waiting for my name. I grab my pen and write, “smallfry9291.” That is my name, after all.

You see, when I geocache, I am so much more than Emilia Barrosse, college student. I am smallfry9291, treasure hunting enthusiast and puzzle master.

Cute entry! Once you start you get hooked for sure. Well, the more enlightened ones do at least. 😉 Happy caching!
