Ruby with the eyes that sparkle

July 2, 2010

I just saw the movie Cold Mountain (may the sweet Lord bless Jude Law for being so damned beautiful). It was a splendid movie filled with beautiful faces (Jude!), beautiful scenes, and most of all, beautiful music! I knew I loved the sound of the banjo and the fiddle playing in harmony — and this movie reinforced that love with super glue!

Listen to the song being played in this scene. It has taken over my mind.

And I realize how random it is that I’ve become so obsessed with a song that I heard for all of one minute in a random scene in this one movie that I was only watching because I was lonely on a Wednesday night and it was on TNT.

So, there’s that. But, wait — there’s more! Naturally, when I become obsessed with a song, I have to research it. And, after extensive YouTube research, I’ve discovered this video. The moment I played it, my heart literally jumped beacuse of how happy I felt as I watched it. Check it out:

It is just so absolutely beautiful. The simplicity! The camaraderie! The blissful music! The happiness that exudes from the dancer as he taps along to the joyous fiddle! The perfect blend of sounds as he taps in time to the rhythm of the melody!

Notice that the video has been watched around 23,000 times on YouTube. Yeah. I think I was probably around 22,999 of those views.

But, I think the reason I love this so much is because I was not expecting to be moved by it as deeply I was. It was literally like I was walking down a sidewalk, tripped, and a crack opened up and I fell into a room of pure gold. That’s how I felt. And that’s how I feel every time I watch the video. And yes, it’s random, I realize that — but I think that that’s another reason why it’s just SO. DAMNED. BEAUTIFUL. To me, at least.
