Most Badass Movie Moments

August 28, 2010

This has probably happened to everyone reading this: you’re watching a movie and suddenly, someone does something so badass that you become conflicted with two urges at once: the need to worship that person, and the need to be that person.

I’ve been there. At different points in my life, I’ve wanted to be Legolas, Eminem, Jason Bourne and King Leonidas, among other people. After some thorough Youtube-ing and movie watching, I’ve come up with some clips of what I think are the baddest-ass cinematic moments ever. Enjoy. (These are in no particular order.)

(**Also, I am aware that I am missing many — please feel free to remind me of anything I’m missing**)

1. Legolas takes down an Oliphant in Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King … solo:

2. Liam Neeson warns kidnappers of his badassery in an attempt to save his daughter from the assholes, and the assholes from his own invincibility in Taken:

3. A Persian (oh, how naïve he is) attempts to unnerve a Spartan in 300 — and what happens as a result:

4. Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) displays his badass thoroughly in the Bourne Ultimatum as he provides cover for both himself and a recalcitrant reporter while being watched by a stunned US intelligence task force:

5. The Joker uses “magic” in the Dark Knight to show a bunch of villains who is truly in charge:

6. Eminem raps circles around his opponent in the final round of the rap battle in 8 Mile:

7. Morgan Freeman does what only Morgan Freeman can do in The Shawshank Redemption:

Great stuff. I like “300” best. I really love that movie! Eminem and Jason Bourne are both truly bad ass in their own way – and who doesn’t love Legolas! (But it still only counts as one.)
